Chicago Franchisee John Stamenos has always been a fan of giving to his neighbors and during the pandemic, he has continued to give – and give generously. In fact, he may have gone a little bananas with his giving.
Since April, John has donated 2,400 bananas to provide healthy snacks to frontline healthcare workers and first responders as they work long hours to care for people in need. That’s a lot of bananas!

He personally delivered cases of bananas to a local hospital, multiple food banks, and fire stations in several cities. Even before his most recent donation of the yellow fruit, John was known at 7-Eleven as “The Banana Man.”
During a previous Feeding America fundraiser, John went all-in, dressing up in a giant banana costume to encourage customers to donate a dollar to the national banana drive. His fruity enthusiasm worked - his store donated the most bananas to his community as a result of the campaign. Each dollar purchased two bananas that were given to local food banks to help feed people in his neighborhood.
“John has always had a passion to help his community,” said Field Consultant Sanaz Maanikhah, who nominated John as a 7-Eleven Hero.” He is the banana man with a big heart.”
Thank you, John, for showing that it’s not bananas at all to “Do the Right Thing.”
