It’s time to pack our sustainable bags and go green. Travel with us to Mexico where we checked out the eco-centric Las Musas store – the first LEED Silver convenience store in Latin-America and Mexico. This store has something no other 7-Eleven store can offer: a tree growing inside. That’s right, a tree!
Originally, the tree wasn’t the focal point of the store. Only during the design process did it become important to preserve it as an example for locals and other retail businesses. In fact, the store wasn’t originally intended to be eco-centric but that big, beautiful tree and the surrounding green areas outside became opportunities to innovate. They can definitely say they are rooted in sustainability!
From the air renewal system that works with an enthalpy wheel (a head scratcher for sure) to the smart use of water efficiency to save resources (something we can all do) to sensors that detect daylight (through the skylights) and reduce the intensity of artificial lights there was no shortage of eco-friendly awesomeness.
While other trips may have fed our belly, this one fed our heart and mind. There are so many ways to make a difference and learning how one tree changed a community is truly inspirational. No, we’re not crying, you’re crying.
